Offseason targets

Was watching the Celtics handle the Lakers yesterday afternoon and remembered that Kendrick Perkins is still actually alive.  There is probably little chance of the Celtics letting him go, but this is the guy in my opinion that the Rockets absolutely must prioritize on their offseason wish-list.  An elite defender, Perk could instantly slide in and give the team the defensive anchor it’s missing; more importantly, he’d bring toughness and a mean streak to what has to be the least confrontational team in the league.  Perkins is a local guy so while I don’t like our chances, that would at least give the team a sliver of hope in wooing the soon-to-be unrestricted free agent.

Among other potential targets, if the Clips got cheap with DeAndre (with the thinking they can’t commit more big money to the center spot with Kaman around), would you throw big bucks there based on potential?  How about Greg Oden?  Huge upside there but equally high risk.  (What people tend to forget is that when healthy, Oden has been scary productive per-minute – this is not a bust in the sense of anything other than injuries.)

The one name on the list that really jumps out is Yao Ming.  While I’ve never seen him play, I had read about him on the internet in 2007.  He can score from either block but allegedly carries injury risks.  Might be worth a flier at the right cost.
