It was reported in Europe that the Houston Rockets and Minnesota Wolves are working on a trade for Nikola Pekovic. It would most likely be a draft day trade.
Pekovic wants to come to the NBA next season and the Wolves offer of $9 million over 3 years isn’t enough money for him so they are discussing a trade with the Rockets, who would be willing to pay him what he wants, which is the MLE.
Neither I nor thedreamshake know much about him, but here’s his profile (courtesy of thedreamshake.)
I’ll withhold judgment on this, but a few things:
- I was flat-out wrong about David Andersen.
- With that said, don’t base your opinion on Pekovic on the failures of Andersen. If the trade goes down, I think there will be a natural inclination by many to do just that, and that’s not fair – just because they are both Europeans does not mean they are the same player.
- I have a longer post in the works discussing some of the team’s finances, but very, very interesting to see that the club would be willing to spend its MLE. Re-signing Lowry and Scola will push them over the tax, meaning that an MLE acquisition will cost the team over $10million real dollars. If the Rockets are willing to pay that amount for someone, they must really like him.
