@  bboley24 : (20 May 2013 - 03:04 PM) a.) Royce has screwed up any chance of someone with pyschological disorders to get signed.  So much for being a Pioneer
@  2016Champions : (20 May 2013 - 11:12 AM) The question remains, how do you rank them? By "who dominated their era more" or do you use the "time machine" argument?
@  2016Champions : (20 May 2013 - 11:10 AM) That's pretty much what pioneer means.
@  rocketrick : (20 May 2013 - 07:44 AM) If it weren't for the "pioneers", the NBA wouldn't be what it is today. Royce White will probably make more money in his limited "career" than some of the big name players from past eras who made the game what it is today.
@  2016Champions : (20 May 2013 - 02:45 AM) How do you rank someone like that?
@  2016Champions : (20 May 2013 - 02:44 AM) I mean, Bill Russell is the GOAT if you're talking about who dominated his era the most, but in today's game he might just be a rich man's Ben Wallace.
@  2016Champions : (20 May 2013 - 02:42 AM) I think pioneers should be on a completely different list all together, but that's probably just me.
@  rocketrick : (19 May 2013 - 11:46 PM) Although most on this forum never saw them play, I think it's difficult at best to keep Bob Cousy and Oscar Robertson off this list.

@  2016Champions : (19 May 2013 - 06:23 PM) Time to retire. Do you think he could become a coach one day?
@  Richards : (19 May 2013 - 03:27 PM) Jason Kidd 10 straight games, and total of 25 games for this season with zero points.

@  Sir Thursday : (16 May 2013 - 04:10 PM) @BenQueens: Probability of that happening is 4.5%. Still, didn't cost them in the end...
@  BenQueens : (16 May 2013 - 04:30 AM) Randolph 1/4FT in the last minute. Career 76.5% - Wow.

What are your thoughts on this recent Tweet from Daryl Morey? http://www.red94.net...rojection/9970/

Aside from Lin I don't see any being all-stars this year. If Martin were to leave, lamb could have a good shot at ROY though, but probably not the all star game. Motie has a chance in coming years as well, but again probably not this year.

I'm not basing this year on us getting a player into the ASG, I will be disappointed though if one of our four drafted rookies(Motie, Lamb, White, and Jones), arent in the top 3 for ROY.

It'd be nice, but it's not like they're expected to finish that high.

Lamb has the best chance at finishing at the top 3 on ROY (as long as Martin is moved and he's given real amounts of play time). If by that, Morey meant All-Star weekend and not the game itself, we could have two or three rookies at the rookies-sophomores game. I don't think Motie will compete for ROY because even though he's the only one with professional experience, he'll have to adapt to the NBA, specially at defense.

All-Star material? Probably Motie, probably Lamb....but that ALWAYS depend on the system and coach guidance. Wrong coach can bust a player by himself.

You're right they arent expected to, but given we've got four competent entries we have a decent chance at it. And after the summer league player rankings came out, I would be surprised if we didn't have a legitimate chance at a ROY.

as far as ROY, isnt it pretty much a given that (barring injury) anthony davis wins? i think we can have a guy in the discussion to get a few votes, but i would be very surprised if davis doesnt win.

as far as all-stars. i hope that turns out to be the case, that we have 1 or 2 guys in this group (that are eventually all-stars). ill stay optimistic!

For this year , our only likely all star will be Jeremy Lin . But two or three years down the road , I can defitnetly see Jeremy Lamb being an all star . IMO he has the best chance out of all the rookies to become an all star or maybe even a superstar

It's pretty much his to lose, but it can be lost! Again, I don't reasonably think one of our guys will win it, but I do believe we have a good chance at having a top 3 candidate if they can get enough playing time.

I think Morey should do a lot less marketing, this is the kind of stuff that makes him seem like he is out of his league.

Personally, I would rather he stay behind the scenes more and let the marketing department handle stuff like this.

As for the truth of it, yeah maybe Lin, but only because the game is in Houston and he is Asian.

I guess I am A bit more optimistic than most of you. I think lamb and lin are the best bets, but each of our 4 rooks have qualities that can lead to becoming a star. white has a unique game that if developed will become a mismatch to opposing teams. motie can be a 25 point 10 rebound guy. jones may end up being the suprise of the bunch. this guy played on a team where a lot of his talent could not blossom because of the players around him, but is big, can shoot the ball and rebounds well. right now it depends on who has the most drive to become that star. I'm excited to see them fight it out for pt. it's all about who wants it the most. this is the best crop of rooks we have had in a long time (IMO).

Thing is, Anthony Davis hasn't gone as the #1 pick based on being the most NBA-ready prospect in the draft - it's a combination of having some tools that will help him contribute immediately (eg. shot-blocking) and his potential to be a superstar in a few years time. So it's not beyond the realms of possibility that one of the other rookies could be better than him this year.

Also worth bearing in mind that RoYs tend to get large amounts of playing time. Here is the MPG of the RoY for the last few years:

05/06: Chris Paul, 36 MPG
06/07: Brandon Roy, 35 MPG
07/08: Kevin Durant, 34 MPG
08/09: Derrick Rose, 37 MPG
09/10: Tyreke Evans, 37 MPG
10/11: Blake Griffin, 38 MPG
11/12: Kyrie Irving, 31 MPG

So from the looks of things you have to play at least 30 MPG to win Rookie of the Year. I'm not sure that Davis is going to get that much PT. He's going to see a lot of foul trouble given how much he tries to block shots, and I'm not sure if he's going to be physically ready to take more than 25 minutes worth of pounding from opposing big guys on any given night. The door is therefore open for someone else to take the crown.

My money for RoY is actually Damien Lillard. He looked great in Summer League and is going to get free rein on that Portland team. Having a dependable guy like LMA on his team will bolster his assist totals somewhat, I should think. I'd expect him to be playing a lot of minutes, and producing in them.

There's definitely a lot of scope for some of our guys to make the Rookie/Sophomore game. If Chandler Parsons keeps playing well he'll be there (he started to get more national attention after the break IIRC). And given the amount of PT our rookies are going to get, at least one of them should be able to put up the numbers to make it...hopefully more than one.

Lamb or motie could be all stars but not anytime soon. If either one got the roy I would be very suprised because I don't think we will win enough to get attention even if one of them is having a good year.
