As the NBA trade deadline nears, discussions surrounding Miami Heat’s Jimmy Butler are intensifying.

Rumors suggest the Heat might trade Butler to the Phoenix Suns, although not in a deal for Kevin Durant. NBA expert Jake Fischer has indicated that Durant might be heading back to the Golden State Warriors instead.

“The increase in discussions about Durant is reportedly because his trade seems to be the only viable option for Phoenix to get Butler before the deadline this Thursday,” Fischer noted. “The rationale behind the Suns’ interest in Butler, especially without Durant, remains unclear according to inquiries by The Stein Line, yet speculation continues about a deal that would move Butler to Phoenix and Durant to the Warriors,” he added.

Despite hopes among many Heat fans for a direct swap of Durant for Butler, the more likely scenario could involve Andrew Wiggins coming to Miami in a complex three-team transaction that also involves the Suns and Warriors.

Miami is on the clock to resolve the situation with Butler, who, despite leading the team to two NBA Finals appearances since 2019, asked to be traded at the end of December. Following his trade request, Butler has been suspended by the team on three separate occasions for detrimental conduct.
