Ex-security officer for the Miami Heat, Marcos Thomas Perez, faces charges for the theft of a vast array of team memorabilia, which he allegedly stole over nearly ten years, according to an announcement from the Southern District of Florida on Tuesday.

At 62 years old, Perez is accused of moving and transferring these stolen items across state lines. He made a court appearance on Tuesday to respond to these allegations.

From 2016 to 2021, Perez was employed by the Heat and subsequently worked for the NBA from 2022 to 2025. It is during these periods that he reportedly had access to the team’s secure equipment storage areas, where he is suspected of taking memorabilia valued in the millions.

Among the most significant items he is believed to have taken is LeBron James’s jersey from the 2013 Finals’ Game 7. In this decisive game, James led the Heat to a victory over the San Antonio Spurs with a score of 95–88, scoring 37 points and grabbing 12 rebounds.

On April 3, a search of Perez’s residence led to the discovery of more than 300 jerseys, according to district officials.
