I've read some interesting things regarding how the Rockets can actually get some compensation for Royce White:
"The Article also contends that if White cannot adequately resolve his health issues, it would be advisable for him - and the Rockets, NBA and Players' Association -- to find creative resolutions...
...If his contract is terminated, this Article recommends compensation to the Rockets in the form of a first round pick in the 2013 NBA draft -- either #16 to replace his selection from the 2012 draft or a supplemental pick at #31. This Article maintains that the NBA commissioner has legal authority to add a draft pick as compensation."
So I'm guessing that's what the Rockets are hoping for

I think #31 is more likely.....that would be nice, I guess....Since it's first round the money is guaranteed, right? Not sure I like that.

It would be a dream come true if we can get the 31st pick and have his salary taken off the cap count, Morey has even said that the 31st pick is arguably more valuable than a mid-late first rounder. I wouldn't get my hopes up, but it would definitely serve as some silver lining to the whole fiasco.

while I agree this does remain a possibility.........the rockets are more likely to move Royce at the trade deadline as an expiring contract to help some other team remove salary while reeling in some other trade assets. the nba has gone through a lot of hoops to avoid getting sued by Royce. my guess is they simply want the rockets to bite the bullet and ride Royce's contract out and let this go away naturally. it's bad enough to have to pay Royce at all, but to pay him and pay lawyers to fight it out in court? sometimes it helps to know when it's time to cut your losses.

He said that in reference to the first pick of the second round, though- no salary guarantees, etc. At this point I'd like to just see his contract taken off the books, compensation or not.
