This NBA season will unveil a new-look Golden State Warriors, as Klay Thompson is slated to start with the Dallas Mavericks in October after spending over a decade with his previous team.

Yet, a recent revelation by Sam Amick from The Athletic suggests that the Warriors might be considering an even bolder move.

It appears that Golden State has explored the possibility of acquiring Miami Heat forward Jimmy Butler, according to Amick during a discussion on The TK Show hosted by seasoned Bay Area sports journalist Tim Kawakami.

“For a significant change like this, not just in free agency but through a trade, things really have to align,” Amick explained. “Jimmy Butler comes to mind; he’s heading into free agency next summer without a recent extension. The Warriors showed some interest, likely making a few inquiries over the summer,” he added.

Indeed, Butler is on the last year of his contract with the Heat, commanding a salary of $48.8 million this year, with a player option for $52.4 million in 2026.

The Warriors, who had a 46–36 record last season and missed the playoffs, are looking to revitalize their lineup, especially after recording their second-highest non-playoff season win percentage in the team’s history. Similarly, Miami experienced an early playoff exit last season, just a year after they clinched the Eastern Conference title.
