On Saturday evening, the Houston Rockets were guests at the San Antonio Spurs’ season home debut. Previously, the Spurs had faced a loss in their season opener against the Dallas Mavericks, where Victor Wembanyama scored 17 points from 18 shots.

Wembanyama significantly improved his performance in the Saturday game, scoring early in the game with two three-pointers, including a notable one from the mid-court logo, propelling the Spurs to an early advantage.

An interesting aspect of the game was that Wembanyama did not wear his special Chewbacca-themed Nike GT Hustles during the first quarter. Shoe expert Nick DePaula revealed these shoes about an hour before the game began, tweeting, “EXCLUSIVE: Victor Wembanyama has ‘Wookiee of the Year’ Nike GT Hustles tonight for San Antonio’s home opener—celebrating his Rookie of the Year season and his love for Star Wars.”

DePaula did not explicitly state that Wembanyama wore these shoes during the game, he simply mentioned that he “has” them. Perhaps coach Gregg Popovich had a word with him about the shoes, or maybe Nike’s goal was merely to generate buzz with the photos. If generating buzz was the goal, it certainly succeeded.
