On October 2, the Minnesota Timberwolves’ decision to trade Karl-Anthony Towns to the New York Knicks signaled a significant change for the Twin Cities basketball landscape.

During his nine-year tenure, Towns was a central figure for the Timberwolves, witnessing both highs and lows. He achieved early success by winning Rookie of the Year, was selected for four All-Star teams, and helped establish the team as a regular in the playoffs.

Speaking on the Roommates Show alongside Knicks players Jalen Brunson and Josh Hart, Towns shared that Minnesota ensured a respectful departure when it was time for him to leave.

“I wasn’t just called up. Tim Connelly, the Timberwolves’ president of basketball operations, came to me personally to tell me I was traded,” Towns recounted on the show’s recent episode. “It was a bold move, I respect that.”

Both Brunson and Hart expressed their admiration for Connelly’s considerate approach to the situation.

“The way it was handled deserves commendation,” Towns added. “It was just me, my three closest friends, and my dad. Hats off to him. He showed up alone… That definitely earns my respect.”

The world of professional basketball can be harsh, yet the Timberwolves’ gracious handling of Towns’ departure illustrates that strong relationships can persist beyond team boundaries.
