During a recent media event for the Minnesota Timberwolves, standout guard Anthony Edwards expressed his disappointment over the team’s decision to trade center Karl-Anthony Towns to the New York Knicks.

“Everyone knows KAT is like a brother to me, so it definitely stung,” remarked Edwards. “But, it’s all part of the business. I need to adapt and am looking forward to working with Julius Randle and Donte DiVincenzo. We need to gel quickly because our goal is to reach the heights we achieved last season and even surpass them.”
Towns, a four-time All-Star, was sent to the Knicks last Friday in a deal that saw the Timberwolves receive three-time All-Star Julius Randle, guard Donte DiVincenzo, and a protected first-round draft pick. The Charlotte Hornets also played a role in the trade.

Edwards disclosed that he was unable to provide input on the trade decision as he was aboard a flight at the time.
The transaction was particularly shocking for Edwards, given his close professional relationship with Towns, which saw them lead the team to three playoff appearances over four seasons, including a recent trip to the Western Conference finals.
Towns himself appeared to be caught off guard by the trade.
After landing, Edwards reached out to Towns via text messages.
“Our bond was incredible,” Edwards shared. “That was our topic of conversation when I landed. We communicated through text messages about everything from the beginning.”
“He even sent me a photo of himself in the gym at three in the morning, which was quite humorous,” he added.
Despite no longer being teammates, it is evident that Edwards and Towns are likely to maintain their strong friendship. Edwards’s Timberwolves are set to kick off the 2024-25 NBA season on October 22 in Los Angeles against the Lakers.
