The New York Knicks are nearing the completion of their significant trade acquisition of Karl-Anthony Towns.

The terms of the trade agreement have been disclosed by ESPN’s Bobby Marks, although the transaction has not been finalized yet.

In this deal, the Knicks will acquire Karl-Anthony Towns from the Minnesota Timberwolves and the draft rights to James Nnaji from the Charlotte Hornets.

In exchange, the Timberwolves will obtain Julius Randle, Donte DiVincenzo, and Keita Bates-Diop from the Knicks, along with a top-13 protected first-round draft pick originally owned by the Detroit Pistons.

The Hornets will receive second-round draft picks for the years 2025, 2026, and 2023, plus players DaQuan Jeffreis, Charlie Brown Jr., and Darius Washington from the Knicks through a sign-and-trade arrangement. Additionally, they will receive $7.2 million in cash.

The first-round draft pick going to Minnesota features protection in the top 13 in 2025, top 11 in 2026, and top nine in 2027. If the pick is not used by 2027, it will convert to a second-round pick for the 2027 draft. Considering the Knicks’ performance, it is expected that this will indeed become a second-round pick eventually.
