Davion Mitchell has secured a new contract with the Miami Heat, committing to a two-year deal worth $24 million, as per ESPN’s NBA authority Shams Charania on Saturday.

Mitchell, who was initially selected as the ninth overall pick by the Sacramento Kings in the 2021 NBA draft, moved to the Toronto Raptors as part of a transaction during the previous year’s draft season. Subsequently, he was traded to the Miami Heat at the trade deadline last season in a significant five-team transaction that also saw Jimmy Butler move to the Golden State Warriors.

As he was set to enter restricted free agency, Mitchell has now signed a fully guaranteed contract to remain with the Heat.

In his time with the Heat last season, Mitchell played in 30 games, starting 15, and averaged 10.3 points, 5.3 assists, 2.7 rebounds, and 1.4 steals per game. He also shot 44.7% from three-point range. His performance, especially in the postseason where he started three games, marked him as a crucial player for the Heat’s strategy moving forward past the Butler era.

This contract gives Mitchell a sense of security and stability, while the Heat secure a vital guard for the next two seasons at a reasonable price.
