According to reports from ESPN’s Shams Charania on Saturday, sourced from insiders, Merrill is set to ink a $38 million deal over four years to remain with Cleveland.
Previously, Merrill was on the brink of entering the market as an unrestricted free agent this off-season.
Drafted as the 60th overall pick in 2020, Merrill made his NBA debut with the Milwaukee Bucks the same year. He played six games for the Memphis Grizzlies during the 2021-22 season before settling in with the Cavaliers the subsequent season.

In the 2023-24 season, the 29-year-old secured a backup role in Cleveland and his contributions increased significantly last season, averaging 7.2 points, 2.2 rebounds, and 1.5 assists across 71 games, a career high. Merrill played a crucial role off the bench for a Cavaliers team that posted a 64-18 record last year and clinched the top spot in the Eastern Conference.
With the recent acquisition of Lonzo Ball to their backcourt on Saturday, the Cavaliers have further solidified their guard positions by securing Merrill for a longer term.
