Celtics’ Shocking Demands for Derrick White Revealed Amid Trade Rumors!

It has been reported that the Boston Celtics were not considering a trade involving veteran guard Derrick White unless the offer was exceptionally lucrative.

According to Jake Fischer from The Stein Line, on a recent Saturday, the Celtics communicated to “at least one competitor team” that they were seeking a trade deal for White that would be comparable to the blockbuster deal the Brooklyn Nets secured from the New York Knicks for Mikal Bridges in the previous offseason.

In July 2024, the Knicks gave up Bojan Bogdanovic, Mamadi Diakite, Shake Milton, and five first-round picks (two in 2025, and one each in 2027, 2029 and 2031), along with a second-round pick in 2025, to acquire Bridges, Keita Bates-Diop, the draft rights to Juan Pablo Vaulet, and a 2026 second-round pick.

However, it seems no team was prepared to offer a similar array of assets for White during this offseason.

This week brought news that the Celtics were entertaining discussions about potentially trading White along with their star player Jaylen Brown. With Jayson Tatum sidelined for much of the upcoming season due to a ruptured Achilles, the Celtics are looking to reduce their payroll to avoid exceeding the costly second salary cap apron.

Just last week, the Celtics made moves by trading Jrue Holiday to the Portland Trail Blazers and dispatching Kristaps Porzingis to the Atlanta Hawks within a two-day period. Yet, it looks like both White and Brown, who are under contract through the 2028-29 season, will remain with Boston.
