Anthony Edwards Slams ‘Soft’ Timberwolves in Fiery Outburst Following Fourth Consecutive Defeat

With the NBA season still unfolding, Anthony Edwards is acutely aware that the Minnesota Timberwolves must address their poor performance urgently.

Right after the Timberwolves suffered their fourth consecutive defeat, losing 115–104 to the Sacramento Kings, Edwards openly criticized the team’s recent failures.

“As a team, we’re incredibly soft,” Edwards remarked. “It’s an internal issue. It’s not about our opposition; it’s about us. We can’t even communicate properly. It’s like we’re merely playing with a bunch of kids. We need to sort things out quickly because this path is unsustainable,” he added.

After a stellar previous season, securing the No. 3 playoff seed in the Western Conference with a record of 56–26 and reaching the Western Conference finals, expectations were set high for the 2024-25 season, especially with Edwards emerging as a superstar.

However, the dynamics within the team changed weeks before the season started when the Timberwolves traded Karl-Anthony Towns to the New York Knicks for Julius Randle and Donte DiVincenzo, disrupting the team’s harmony and performance on the court.

Minnesota’s defense, which was the best in the league last season with a defensive rating of 108.4, has deteriorated to a rating of 112.1, ranking them 12th in the NBA after 18 games this season.

The defensive issues were evident during a recent game where the Timberwolves were outscored 29–6 by the Kings in the final seven minutes of the game.

“When we were down, nobody spoke up,” Edwards shared with the Star Tribune. “When things were going well, everyone was excited and cheering. But as soon as we faced adversity again, the energy disappeared. That’s what you call being a front-runner. We, including myself, behaved like that tonight.”

“… All of us, all 15, we’re retreating into our shells and drifting apart. It’s clear for everyone to see – I see it, the team sees it, the coaches see it, and the fans notice it too; they’re even booing us at our home games. It’s really shocking,” he continued.

Edwards and the struggling Timberwolves will have a brief rest on Thanksgiving before returning to action on Friday night against the Los Angeles Clippers at Target Center.
