The Phoenix Suns’ season has unfolded in a way that no one within the franchise had anticipated. Rather than emerging as strong contenders, the team found itself contemplating the trades of its key players, Kevin Durant and Bradley Beal, as the trade deadline approached. Despite the rumors, both Durant and Beal expressed their preference to remain with the team and were not traded during the season.

Beal has openly stated that he felt undervalued by the Suns throughout this season. His frustrations were compounded when the Suns shifted him to a bench role for part of the season.

In spite of the challenges he faced with the Suns this season, Beal continues to maintain a positive attitude and a commitment to the team.

“Being human, I sometimes need to step back and see the larger picture,” Beal shared with ESPN. “My primary goal upon joining was to win. I’ve scored 30 points a game, I’ve been an All-Star, and I’ve made the All-NBA team. But what I really want is to win titles. That’s been my reputation—I haven’t won anything. So, no matter what it takes for the team, whether I come off the bench, start, or play a different role, I’m willing to do it. Do I like it? Absolutely not, but I refuse to be that guy.

“I love playing basketball,” Beal continued. “It’s enjoyable. I make it a point to not let anyone steal that joy from me. It’s challenging. We’re all human, we can feel overwhelmed, we can question things, we can ask, ‘Why me?’ But I think that just pulls you down further than necessary. I still play in the NBA, which is the best job in the world, and I still have my no-trade clause. So, I’m smiling every day.”

While Beal is open to the possibility of being traded in the offseason, his current focus is on finishing the season strongly with the Suns.
