The Heat declared via a social media post that they have decided to suspend Butler for a total of seven games due to “repeated behavior that has negatively impacted the team throughout the season, with these issues intensifying in recent weeks.”
Miami HEAT statement on Jimmy Butler:
We have suspended Jimmy Butler for seven games for multiple instances of conduct detrimental to the team over the course of the season and particularly the last several weeks.

Additionally, the Heat revealed they are now open to trading the 35-year-old basketball player.
“Butler’s actions and public statements make it clear that he no longer sees his future with our team. He and his agent have communicated a desire to explore trade possibilities, and we will consider potential offers,” the team stated.
According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, the National Basketball Players Association plans to challenge the seven-game suspension handed to Butler by filing a grievance, though the process might be protracted and is unlikely to halt the suspension.
Only a week prior, the team’s president Pat Riley had asserted that there were no plans to trade Butler, but recent developments have forced a change in their stance.
After a loss to the Pacers with a score of 128-115 the previous Thursday, Butler voiced his dissatisfaction, explaining to the media that he was seeking to “regain his joy for basketball.”
“We’ll see where I end up soon, but my goal is to rediscover that joy. I’m content off the court here, but I aim to return to my peak form. I want to play well and contribute to the team’s victories. Currently, I’m not able to do that,” he added.
When asked specifically about finding happiness again in Miami, Butler answered, “probably not.”
So far this season, the Heat have a record of 17–15, with Butler averaging 18 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 4.7 assists per game, playing 31.0 minutes on average.
Butler will be eligible to return to the game on January 17 when the Heat face the Denver Nuggets, unless he is traded beforehand.
