Miami Heat’s prominent player, Jimmy Butler, may become a free agent post the 2024-25 season, but with the trading window opening on December 15, there’s a chance he could depart from Miami earlier than anticipated.

According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, Butler has shown interest in three specific teams, which include the Golden State Warriors (who expressed interest a few months back), the Houston Rockets, and the Dallas Mavericks.

Originating from Houston, Texas, Butler’s preference for the two Texas teams stems from his hometown roots. Joining either team would represent a return to his origins for the NBA player.

It’s also worth mentioning that the Heat are receptive to entertaining offers for Butler, but only if the terms are favorable enough to make a trade viable during the season, as per Charania’s reports.

Should Butler transfer to any of these three teams, he would likely remain in the hunt for the playoffs since all three are currently positioned within the playoff bracket, much like Butler’s current team, the Heat. Playoff success is significant to Butler, who has participated in the postseason in 12 out of his 13 NBA seasons.

At 35, Butler is approaching the final year of his contract with the Heat, which pays him $48.8 million. He also has a player option for 2026 valued at $52.4 million, though he has already decided against renewing this option next summer.
