Despite being sidelined for a portion of the previous season due to a hamstring issue, Zion Williamson, a forward for the New Orleans Pelicans, is now significantly lighter than his initial draft weight in 2019. He now weighs in at 264 pounds, as reported by ESPN’s Michael Wright.

Listed at 284 pounds on both NBA.com and ESPN, Williamson has shed 20 pounds since the season began. This weight loss is crucial, particularly because of the terms in the five-year, $197.2 million extension he signed in 2022. Under this agreement, the 24-year-old must maintain a combined weight and body fat percentage under 295 to avoid a potential 20% cut in his salary for the next season.
This weight loss appears to be paying off. Williamson has been performing well, averaging 27.1 points and 6.7 rebounds over his recent 10 games at the start of 2025. However, his impressive performance hasn’t been enough to turn around the Pelicans’ fortunes. The team is languishing at the bottom of the Western Conference with a 14–43 record and has won only one of their last seven games, despite Williamson scoring 40 points in one of those matchups.
Clearly, it’s not the ideal situation, but for the Pelicans to have a shot at playoff success, they need Williamson at his peak, both in play and fitness. Fortunately, it seems he is well on his way to achieving just that.
