In recent times, whenever a prominent player becomes available for trade, there is a rush among fans and analysts to link them with the Golden State Warriors.

The Warriors seem like a team ready to make bold moves: they have an established but aging roster highlighted by star guard Stephen Curry. This makes them appear as a fitting destination for experienced players like forward Jimmy Butler, who is reportedly having issues with the Miami Heat.

However, a recent Saturday morning report by Sam Amick, Anthony Slater, and Marcus Thompson II from The Athletic suggests that the Warriors are actually focusing on acquiring two different players from other teams, and are not considering a move for Butler.

They are interested in Cameron Johnson, a forward from the Brooklyn Nets, who is a sought-after player right now. Johnson would provide additional shooting prowess and could be a versatile option in various lineup setups. He’s also on a reasonable contract, earning $22.5 million this season. Yet, the report highlights that Golden State is trailing behind the Oklahoma City Thunder and Sacramento Kings in the pursuit of his services.

Nikola Vucevic from the Chicago Bulls is another player the Warriors are considering.

The Warriors’ management and coaching staff have recognized since training camp that the team needs a true stretch center, which Curry has lacked throughout his career. Vucevic, who is making 44% of his nearly five three-point attempts per game this season and averaging 20.3 points, could be the ideal candidate.

The NBA trade deadline is set for February 6, and the Warriors currently find themselves in ninth place in the Western Conference with a record of 17-16.
