After a season back with the team that originally selected him in the draft, center Tristan Thompson is poised to stay on.

Thompson has agreed to a one-year deal with the Cleveland Cavaliers, as reported on a Friday morning by ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

The former NBA champion, now 33, was initially picked by the Cavaliers as the fourth overall in the 2011 NBA draft from Texas. He has played 10 seasons for Cleveland since then.

Thompson was with the team from 2011 until 2020 and then played for various teams between 2021 and 2023.

In his return to the Cavaliers in 2024, Thompson contributed an average of 3.3 points, 3.6 rebounds, and an assist over 49 games. His season, marked by consistent performances off the bench, was disrupted by a 25-game suspension due to the use of performance-enhancing drugs.

Thompson is a key figure from Cleveland’s 2016 championship team and holds the fifth spot in the franchise’s all-time games played list.

The Cavaliers are set to start the 2025 season on October 23 against the Toronto Raptors.
