Following a lackluster season with a record of 36-46, the Phoenix Suns have decided to part ways with head coach Mike Budenholzer. This marks the third consecutive year the team has dismissed their head coach. During a press conference on Thursday, team owner Mat Ishbia hinted that this coaching change is just one of many adjustments planned for the team.

“I’m not satisfied with this season,” Ishbia stated to the media in Phoenix. “With that in mind, we’re planning to implement some changes. As the owner, it’s my responsibility to enact these changes and approach things differently. The strategies we’ve employed over the past 2.5 years haven’t brought the success we anticipated… Changes will be made.”
Ishbia also made a significant promise to supporters of the Suns:
“I assure you, we will win championships—with an S at the end.”

This sets a lofty goal for a franchise that has not yet secured a championship since its establishment in 1968.
Despite having a roster featuring stars like Kevin Durant, Devin Booker, and Bradley Beal, and following four consecutive postseason appearances including a run to the NBA Finals, the Suns failed to make the playoffs this season for the first time since the 2019-20 season. They now look forward to a new chapter under their fourth head coach since Ishbia’s acquisition of the team in 2023, with further changes likely on the way.
