Lakers head coach JJ Redick and his family, who reside in Pacific Palisades, were deeply affected by the recent catastrophic wildfires in Southern California, which claimed their home earlier this month. His sons, Knox and Kai, saw their cherished collection of sports memorabilia and jerseys destroyed in the fire. In a heartwarming act of solidarity, NBA players have come together to help restore their collection.

On a recent Saturday, under Redick’s leadership, the Lakers triumphed over the Warriors with a score of 118-108. Despite a less stellar performance from Steph Curry, who scored only 13 points, Curry’s support extended beyond the basketball court. He had arranged special gifts for Knox and Kai, which he handed to Redick after the game.

As reported by ESPN’s Dave McMenamin, Curry’s security detail waited for Redick to finish his postgame press conference to give him two signed and personalized jerseys from Curry for his sons.

The generosity didn’t stop there. San Antonio Spurs icons Victor Wembanyama and Chris Paul also made a touching gesture after their game against the Lakers on January 13th. They gave their game-worn jerseys, autographed, to Knox and Kai.

Following the kind gestures from Paul and Wembanyama, Redick shared details about the memorabilia his kids had lost and expressed his gratitude for the support in helping his sons rebuild their collection from scratch.

“I used to run a podcast from my home for two years,” Redick recounted after the Lakers’ January 13th game against the Spurs. “All the visiting players would sign a jersey or a card. My sons had amassed a significant collection of these… and it’s all gone now. It’s really thoughtful of everyone involved to help out.”

“Thanks to Austin [Reaves] as well, who left a couple of signed items in his locker for them recently. I’m really thankful for all the love we’ve received. And it’s no surprise Chris would do something like this,” he added.

And now, thanks to Curry’s thoughtful gesture, the Redick boys have a new, invaluable addition to their budding collection.
