The NBA has been a hot topic of discussion in recent years, especially with declining viewership this season. While some believe that the overuse of three-point shooting by teams is to blame, Los Angeles Lakers coach JJ Redick argues that the negative commentary from analysts is driving fans away from the game.

Redick expressed his thoughts in December, saying, “If I’m a casual fan and every time I turn on the TV, I’m told that the product is terrible, then why would I bother watching it?”
NBA commentator and Hall of Famer Charles Barkley strongly disagreed with Redick’s comments during a TNT broadcast on Thursday.

“He blamed us for people not watching this terrible product,” Barkley retorted. “It’s like we’re the ones shooting a hundred threes a night. JJ, if you’re going to challenge the king, you’d better not miss, because I can come after you. Remember, I cover your Lakers games. You can’t cover up those flaws they have. You’re just a dead man walking. They fired Frank Vogel and Darvin Ham, both of whom did good jobs. You thought you could make a difference with the same bad team—the Lakers are just bad.”

“He thought he could make it work. No way you can. It’s like putting lipstick on a pig. The Lakers are just bad, man. Seriously,” Barkley continued.
The next day, Redick acknowledged that he had seen the video of Barkley’s comments. “I literally don’t care,” he stated.

Redick further commented that he stopped watching the video midway, with his heart rate remaining steady at 64 throughout the ordeal. He added, “I have other thoughts, but I don’t care.”
Redick and the Lakers are set to face the Atlanta Hawks on Friday.
