1. Today, the buzz on social media was all about the Clippers’ newly unveiled arena. A particular area in the arena called The Wall, where die-hard fans cheer wildly behind one of the baskets, has already become a fan favorite.

Maybe it’s just me getting older and more cynical, but I can’t understand the rave reviews for this new arena when they’re charging $70 just for parking.

SEVENTY DOLLARS! FOR PARKING! AT A REGULAR SEASON BASKETBALL GAME.

Am I the only one who finds this completely outrageous?

It’s appalling, yet it seems that sports fans are the most willing to endure these exploitations without much protest.

We shell out for countless streaming platforms, overpriced cable, exorbitant ticket and concession prices, not to mention the extortionate parking fees. And that’s not even touching on the cost of team gear and memorabilia.

The expenses just keep piling up, and it seems to only get worse. I just can’t wrap my head around it.

2. The latest episode of SI Media With Jimmy Traina was released this morning, featuring an interview with CBS’s James Brown.

The seasoned NFL Today host shared insights from his life before broadcasting, including his time at Harvard University and his attempt to make it with the Atlanta Hawks, and what unfolded when he didn’t make the team. Brown also discussed his transition from Fox’s pregame show to CBS, his expectations for NFL Today, this season’s changes with Phil Simms and Boomer Esiason leaving and Matt Ryan joining, what his typical Sunday involves, and his most memorable broadcasting mistake, which he described as a significant blunder during his first attempt at play-by-play.

Following the discussion with Brown, Sal Licata from WFAN radio and SNY TV in New York will join for the “Traina Thoughts” segment. This week’s topics include the Dodgers-Yankees World Series, a painful gambling loss, the NFL trade deadline coinciding with Election Day, and a critique of the film Saturday Night.

3. I initiated Wednesday’s Traina Thoughts with President Barack Obama’s entertaining account on the Young Man and the Three podcast about a Key & Peele skit coming to life during the Olympics with some NBA stars.

Later, I continued listening to the podcast and shared my thoughts on X last night, which I’ll reiterate here. With NBC and Amazon entering the NBA broadcasting scene next season, they should definitely consider inviting President Obama to join as an analyst. Even if he isn’t a regular on pregame shows, there are numerous ways he could contribute, perhaps through essays or interviews.

His pointed critique of the NBA All-Star Game and his humorous exchange with Tyrese Haliburton was one of the most memorable moments I’ve seen on an NBA broadcast lately.

Not just because of Haliburton’s reaction to being admonished by the former President, which was utterly priceless.

4. One of the greatest joys of being a sports fan is witnessing something completely unprecedented.

Having followed sports since the 1980s, I’ve never heard of an athlete being called for jury duty before.

Yet, that’s exactly what happened to Dallas’s exceptional kicker, Brandon Aubrey, who couldn’t avoid his civic duty.

5. If you’re looking for a college football team to root against for the remainder of the season, consider Penn State.

Witness the immature and embarrassing behavior of Nittany Lions coach James Franklin when journalists questioned him about rape charges against two former players.

All he needed to do was decline to comment, but instead, he turned it into a spectacle.

6. I can’t believe I missed this earlier in the week, but Seahawks cornerback Tariq Woolen watching his team play via an illegal stream while sidelined with an injury, and then openly bragging about it on X, immediately makes him one of my top NFL players this year.

7. RANDOM VIDEO OF THE DAY: In light of the Rams playing tonight on Thursday Night Football, today seemed like a good day to reminisce about the infamous “Chris Evert” incident that would have been a huge topic of conversation if social media like X had existed back then.
