Since 1958, Hubie Brown has made his mark in professional basketball, and he has been a commentator for NBA games on ESPN since 2004. Magnus shared on the podcast, “We are planning to let Hubie commentate one final game. He has earned this opportunity. He’s highly regarded by everyone here, and it’s truly incredible how effectively he continues to perform his role at over 90 years old.”
While Magnus did not specify the exact date of Brown’s final commentary for ESPN, he did mention that preparations are underway to celebrate Brown’s last time behind the microphone.
Magnus also added, “Without giving too much away, we plan to honor Hubie during this regular season at an appropriate time and give him a memorable farewell. I believe no one else has had such a prolonged involvement in professional basketball as he has.”
Brown has not been active in game calling this season following a series of personal losses. His son, Brendan Brown, an assistant coach with the Grizzlies and broadcaster for the Knicks, died two weeks ago at the age of 54. Earlier, in June, Brown also mourned the loss of his wife, Clair.
