It’s clear that Shaquille O’Neal harbors a strong aversion towards Rudy Gobert, the center for the Minnesota Timberwolves. O’Neal, a seasoned TV analyst, frequently seizes the opportunity to criticize Gobert, crossing from purely professional critique into more personal territory. Despite this, the changing landscape of sports media appears to shield O’Neal from any repercussions at Inside the NBA, especially with the program’s upcoming transition to ESPN.

In a recent episode of The Big Podcast, O’Neal elaborated on his reasons for disliking Gobert.
“I absolutely despise Rudy Gobert,” O’Neal expressed. “The guy is pocketing $250 million and he just doesn’t cut it, man. As the President of the Big Man Alliance, I expect you to earn your keep. Play like a true center. Show some aggression. Knock people over. It’s unacceptable to let some skinny guy from Denver dunk over you and trash-talk you, and only then you react by grabbing him. If you’re going to earn that kind of money, you need to play hard.”

O’Neal also made a bold declaration in his tirade against Gobert.
“If Rudy Gobert is inducted into the Hall of Fame, I’ll wear a dress to the ceremony,” he promised.
Whether or not this occurs remains to be seen, as Gobert’s induction seems likely, even if he never plays another significant game.
It’s quite remarkable that O’Neal can make such statements and still be a highly-paid NBA analyst, while Gobert remains an influential player in the league. The once-clear line that deemed it inappropriate to openly despise players while covering their games seems to have been erased.
The rules have changed.
