Jaylen Clark was selected by the Minnesota Timberwolves in the second round of the 2023 NBA draft. His early career was setback by an Achilles injury incurred during his time at UCLA, causing him to miss the entire 2023-2024 NBA season. He finally made his long-awaited NBA debut in January 2025. This Sunday marked only his second time starting a game, and he was quickly proving to be a valuable asset for a Timberwolves squad plagued by injuries this year.

However, a distressing incident occurred in the third quarter of the game. After intercepting the ball, Clark went up against Isaiah Hartenstein and took a severe fall, striking his head on the court. He clutched his head in pain while lying on the floor, yet the game continued around him, culminating in a three-pointer by Anthony Edwards.

Strangely, the game officials did not halt the game immediately following the incident.

Adding to the concern was the apparent lack of urgency from the training staff in responding to Clark’s injury. It was Joe Ingles, who was benched at the time, who first approached to check on Clark.

Clark was eventually assisted to the locker room and was diagnosed with a neck injury by the team.

In the 18 minutes he played, Clark managed to score 14 points, secure four steals, and grab one rebound. Fans and teammates alike are hopeful for his swift recovery and return to the court.
