Currently ranking low in the league standings, the Brooklyn Nets are reportedly crafting ambitious plans to propel themselves into a competitive position in the near future.

NBA expert Marc Stein has indicated that the Nets are targeting Milwaukee Bucks’ star player, Giannis Antetokounmpo. Speculations suggest that Antetokounmpo might consider leaving Milwaukee eventually, and should this occur, Brooklyn appears ready to pursue the 30-year-old player.

“In discussions with competing teams, the narrative consistently ends the same way: the Nets have been and still are portrayed as a team eager to position themselves to potentially acquire Giannis Antetokounmpo from Milwaukee someday,” Stein reported on his Substack.

Currently, the Nets have gathered a significant number of future draft picks, assets they could leverage in a possible deal to secure Giannis. Antetokounmpo’s contract with the Bucks extends through the 2026-27 season, with him set to earn $54.1 million next season and $58.4 million the following year. He also holds a player option for the 2027-28 season valued at $62.8 million, at which time he will be 33 years old.

Despite the timing, Stein notes that the Nets are captivated by the idea of adding him to their roster and are strategizing to make a move should he become available before his contract concludes.

This season, Giannis has been performing impressively, averaging 31.7 points, 11.9 rebounds, and 6.1 assists per game. He is likely to be named to his ninth consecutive All-Star Game in 2025 and is also on track to be selected as an All-NBA First-Team member for the seventh consecutive year.
