Being selected early in the NBA draft carries a significant amount of responsibility and expectation. These top picks are immediately seen as cornerstone players for the teams that choose them, and they are rewarded with rookie contracts that can be worth millions of dollars.

Fortune smiled on the San Antonio Spurs, who secured the No. 2 overall pick in the 2025 NBA draft. They used this opportunity to draft Dylan Harper, a talented guard from Rutgers, to play alongside Victor Wembanyama, the prodigious talent picked first in 2023. Harper, who was selected in the draft last month, signed a four-year contract worth $56 million.

The Spurs shared a video showing Harper’s astonishment when he signed his first NBA contract, clearly overwhelmed by the figures involved. Watch his priceless reaction here:

“I’m feeling blessed and happy to be here,” Harper expressed after signing his contract. “From the moment I held up the jersey, to shaking Commissioner Adam Silver’s hand, to this moment, it has all felt like a dream,” he added.

Harper recently showed his skills during the Summer League with the Spurs, where he scored 16 points in each of the two games he played. During his freshman year at Rutgers, he averaged 19.4 points, 4.6 rebounds, and four assists per game. Now, with his lucrative new contract, he looks forward to playing alongside Wembanyama and last year’s NBA Rookie of the Year, Stephon Castle.

The Spurs have documented Harper’s momentous occasion and their overall experience at the Summer League in an all-access video, which you can view here:
