MacMahon’s report sheds light on how the Mavericks intended to welcome their ex-star, who had been rather abruptly traded away, with Doncic’s representatives rejecting at least one proposed idea.
MacMahon detailed that the Mavericks had arranged “lucrative sponsorship deals” with several brands endorsed by Doncic, presumably as a part of the celebrations marking his return to Dallas. However, Doncic’s team was not on board with the plan.
“Team sources told ESPN that the Mavs had also lined up lucrative sponsorship deals for Wednesday’s game, with multiple companies that Doncic endorses,” MacMahon reported, “but those deals fell through after Doncic’s camp declined to participate, clearly indicating that he now represents the Lakers.”
