Doncic recently shared insights with reporters ahead of Slovenia’s exhibition game against Germany on Friday, disclosing the key to his enhanced physical condition.

The secret, as reported by the Dallas Hoops Journal, is actually quite simple: taking time off.

“I often get asked this question. I believe I was already performing well before,” he explained. “What motivated me? It was mainly about adjusting the training schedule. I had more time this year. Last summer was exhausting. I played until June, then immediately joined the national team, leaving me drained. This summer, I managed to get more rest.”

In 2024, Doncic led the Dallas Mavericks to the NBA Finals, participating in a total of 92 games across the regular and postseason. He then joined the Slovenian national team to get ready for the Olympic qualifiers. By the onset of the 2024-2025 NBA season, he had achieved a level of fitness that prompted his general manager to consider trading him.

While Doncic’s updated training regimen now includes a new diet and increased cardiovascular exercise, he reiterated, “I still believe I was a strong player even before this change.”
