This agreement, valued at $165 million, features a player option for the 2028-29 season. With this deal, Doncic has secured his immediate future with the Lakers, alleviating the team’s concerns about him entering free agency next summer, a scenario that would have unfolded if he had opted not to extend his contract. Moreover, this contract positions the Slovenian star for an enormous future financial gain, as he will qualify for a maximum contract possibly exceeding $400 million when the time comes to decide on his player option in three years.
Following the announcement, Doncic took to his social media to share his enthusiasm, asserting that the journey he and the Lakers are on is just beginning.
