However, during his postgame interview, James seemed preoccupied with thoughts of his friend, Spurs coach Gregg Popovich, who had to leave his team duties indefinitely due to a mild stroke on November 4.
James admitted to reporters that he has not started preparing for the upcoming game against the Spurs, as his thoughts are with Popovich, as reported by ESPN’s Dave McMenamin.

“To be honest, I haven’t even thought about it yet,” James said. “Obviously, I look forward to the game on Friday. It’s always a challenge to win in San Antonio. But for me, there’s something much more significant happening in San Antonio right now, and that involves my dear friend Coach Pop.”
“I’ll be thinking a lot about him as I head there tomorrow, during the game on Friday and wishing him the best of health. Hopefully, I’ll get to see him soon. It doesn’t even have to be on the sidelines.”
“Seeing him is what matters most to me right now.”
Popovich, who is 75, experienced a mild stroke on November 2 at the Frost Bank Center, the home arena of his team. He is expected to fully recover, though there is no definite timeline for his return to coaching duties.
Over his 29 seasons as the Spurs’ coach, Popovich has faced James in the NBA Finals three times. Beyond the court, however, they have developed a deep friendship, respect, and admiration for one another.
It’s evident how much Popovich means to James.
