LeBron James of the Los Angeles Lakers is once again delivering an impressive performance this season.

In his 22nd NBA season, at age 39, James is posting averages of 24.3 points, 9.4 assists, and 8.1 rebounds per game, shooting 52% from the field. The Lakers currently have a record of 7 wins and 4 losses.

Given his current form, it’s difficult to imagine James retiring in the near future. However, when questioned about how long he expects to maintain this level of play, James provided a reflective response, hinting at a possible timeline for his retirement.

“It’s all about the mental aspect,” James said on a Wednesday night. “My physical performance is directly linked to where my mind is at. Honestly, I don’t see myself playing many more years. Whether it’s one year or two, I’m not sure yet.

“I’ve already mentioned that I won’t be playing until I physically can’t anymore. I refuse to disrespect the game just to be on the court. That’s not who I am or who I intend to be,” he added.

ESPN’s basketball expert Shams Charania suggested on Thursday that the next season could mark the end of James’s illustrious career, although James might delay his decision depending on whether his younger son Bryce enters the NBA in the coming years.

James aims to continue his exceptional performance when his team meets Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs in San Antonio on Friday.
