Moreover, there’s a new cause for concern for these teams: a spine-chilling new mascot named “Roy Al.”
On Thursday, the Sacramento Kings revealed their new City Edition jerseys in blue and red, paying homage to their time as the Cincinnati Royals from 1957 to 1972. Originally, the team sported these colors even during their early years in Sacramento before switching to their current purple hues in 1994.
On evenings when the Kings don these new City Connect uniforms, Roy Al will replace the team’s primary mascot, “Slamson the Lion.” The terrifying visage of Roy Al is inspired by the updated logo featured on the shorts of the City Edition uniforms, which itself is a modern take on the historic Cincinnati Royals emblem.

“This uniform reflects not only our recognition of our storied past as one of the NBA’s oldest franchises but also embraces the evolution that has brought us to this point and our anticipation of a promising future,” stated John Rinehart, the Kings’ president of business operations. “Our supporters are crucial to this legacy, and we are thrilled to share this celebration with them.”
Roy Al is set to make his NBA debut this Saturday when the Kings wear their new City Edition uniforms during their game against the Utah Jazz at the Golden 1 Center.
