Netflix launches a new series chronicling the rise and fall of a pathological liar.
When things aren’t quite as they seem, fiction is crafted and served up for our entertainment! In Apple Cider Vinegar, a Netflix series premiering February 6, 2025, the deception stems from a woman, Belle Gibson, who fabricates her medical condition to gain fame.
The story is based on actual events, as Belle Gibson is a real Australian whose health fraud was exposed in 2013, followed by her conviction in 2017. To dramatize Belle’s fabrications over the course of a six-episode first season, Netflix enlisted Australian screenwriter Samantha Strauss, known for her work on Nine Perfect Strangers.
Portraying the relentless liar, the production cast Kaitlyn Dever, an American actress recognized for her roles in Justified and Dopesick. The predominantly female cast also includes Alycia Debnam-Carey, known as Lexa from The 100 and Alicia from Fear the Walking Dead.
