The Memphis Grizzlies decisively defeated the Charlotte Hornets 124-100 during an away game on Tuesday, although the triumph was marred by a distressing incident.

During a rapid breakaway dunk, Grizzlies’ promising newcomer Jaylen Wells suffered a severe fall caused by Hornets’ rookie KJ Simpson, who dangerously undercut him. The incident led to Wells being carried off the court on a stretcher to the hospital, while Simpson faced a barrage of criticism for his dangerous actions.

Simpson was penalized with a flagrant 2 foul and was subsequently ejected from the match.

Following the game, Simpson expressed his remorse through social media, apologizing to Wells and his family for the injurious play.

Via KJ Simpson: “My prayers are with @jaylen_wells, I know we already spoke and are good friends bro but again I just wanted to express not only to J but to his family as well how deeply sorry I am. I would never intentionally harm anyone. I’m just extremely sorry “

Simpson appeared visibly upset after Wells’ injury, indicating the incident was an unfortunate accident but nonetheless a reckless one. Wells acknowledged Simpson’s apology on his social media page.
