Hellbound is a Korean horror series created by Yeon Sang-Ho (Train to Busan, Peninsula). It is based on a webtoon of the same name, also created by Yeon Sang-Ho. The series debuted its first episode at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2022, marking the first time a series was featured in the Primetime category.
In recent years, Korea has gained fame for its high-quality horror cinema, which often blends gore with dream-like elements while its plots deeply scrutinize society. The first season of Hellbound has been available on Netflix since November 19, 2021, with season 2 launching on the platform on October 25, 2024.
What is the plot of Hellbound?
Random individuals suddenly encounter a terrifying ectoplasmic entity known as the Angel, which appears to inform them of their death date. Whether the predicted death is hours or months away, the grim prophecy invariably comes true as supernatural creatures appear at the appointed time to take the victims to hell. This leads to widespread panic and radicalization within the population. Could these hellish apparitions be sent to Earth to punish humanity for its sins? Two religious movements then exploit these tragedies to spread terror and gain followers.
