Without delay, White began sharing intriguing anecdotes from his time in the league, including when he was traded from the San Antonio Spurs to the Boston Celtics. He shared how Spurs coach Gregg Popovich delivered the news with his typical straightforwardness.
“We were in Atlanta,” White recounted. “Pop comes in and just says, ‘Hey, uh, you’ve been traded,’ and stops right there.
I asked, ‘To where?’ And he replied, ‘We wouldn’t do you dirty; you’re headed to Boston.’”
Following the news, White tried to remain nonchalant but ended up grabbing a bottle to mull over his future in the NBA. He humorously noted that he was slightly hungover when he first met his new teammates in Boston.

Though being traded is always challenging, Popovich’s reassurance was prophetic as White became an essential player in the Celtics’ 2024 championship campaign.
