The NBA stands out among professional sports leagues for its intricate salary configurations, which include various contract types, a salary cap, and multiple luxury tax levels.

As the 2024-25 season approaches and teams finalize their lineups, it’s a good time to delve into some of these financial complexities, including the minimum salary rates for NBA players in the upcoming season.

2024-25 NBA Season Minimum Salary Details

For the 2024-25 season, the minimum salary in the NBA varies based on a player’s experience. A newcomer, with no previous NBA years under their belt, will earn $1,157,153. This figure increases with each year of experience accumulated.

For example, a player with one year of experience will earn $1,862,265, while those with two, three, and four years will make $2,087,519, $2,162,606, and $2,237,691 respectively. This scale continues, reaching up to $3,303,771 annually for players with ten or more years in the league.

The minimum salary levels for the 2024-25 season have seen an approximate increase of 3.36% from the previous season, reflecting the rise in the NBA’s salary cap this year.

To motivate teams to sign veteran players, those with three or more years of experience signed on minimum-salary contracts will only count as $2,087,519 against the salary cap—the same as the minimum for players with two years of experience.

Earnings for NBA Two-Way Contract Players

Since 2017, the NBA has implemented two-way contracts, which allow teams to maintain additional players beyond the standard 15-member season roster. Players under two-way contracts may spend the entire season in the G League or participate in up to 50 of their team’s 82 regular-season games. They are also allowed to be inactive team members during games.

Players with less than four years of NBA experience are eligible for these contracts, and teams may sign up to three two-way players.

These contracts provide a salary of $578,577 annually, which is half the amount of the rookie minimum salary.
