Entering the Golden 1 Center on Wednesday evening, Thompson was still overshadowed by the unpleasant memories of his previous performance. However, he managed to overcome this in the Dallas Mavericks’ convincing 120-106 victory over Sacramento in the play-in tournament.
“It did feel good to exorcise those demons in here, man,” Thompson expressed to Scott Van Pelt on SportsCenter post-game.
Thompson showcased his classic form by scoring 23 points on 8-of-11 shooting, including 5-of-7 from beyond the arc, significantly contributing to the Mavericks’ win. This victory keeps Dallas in the running, setting them up against the Memphis Grizzlies on Friday night for the eighth and final playoff slot in the Western Conference.
“Man, the last time I was here was not very fun,” Thompson told reporters. “There’s a lot of emotion. I think I did a good job not forcing it. It’s natural to want to prove people wrong after a season ends on such a disappointing note.”
Klay Thompson on overcoming the emotions left over from last year’s blunder in Sacramento:

The likelihood of Thompson facing his former team in this postseason appears slim, with the Golden State Warriors gearing up to battle the Houston Rockets in their first-round playoff series.
Despite his dramatic departure from the Warriors, it’s refreshing to see Thompson engaged in impactful basketball once again, visibly enjoying the game.
