The Phoenix Suns face significant challenges as they currently find themselves one game behind the No. 10 seed in the Western Conference, with only seven games left in the regular season. Even if they manage to qualify for the Play-In tournament, they would need to overcome considerable obstacles to secure a spot in a seven-game playoff series against the Oklahoma City Thunder. Compounding their problems, they will be without Kevin Durant, who is sidelined for at least the next week due to an ankle injury.

On a recent episode of Get Up, Brian Windhorst speculated that Durant might have played his last game for the Suns.
“It’s entirely possible, as each ankle injury is unique,” Windhorst explained. “Predicting how his ankle will recover by next week is uncertain. This was a severe twist. He experienced a similar injury two years ago during his first season with the Suns, which resulted in him missing 10 games.”

“Another issue is their current 11th place standing and facing the toughest schedule ahead,” Windhorst continued. “What keeps them in contention is that the two teams ahead of them, Sacramento and Dallas, continue to lose… It would be extraordinary if he could play again this season, and his future with the Suns beyond this summer is uncertain.”
Windhorst raises several valid points. Durant, who will be 37 next season, likely places a high priority on contending for another championship. Unfortunately, his three seasons with the Suns may end without significant playoff achievements, a disappointing outcome for a team that had ambitious expectations for this era.
