Cast Reflects on America’s Favorite Family
The Everybody Loves Raymond: 30th Anniversary Reunion brought together the surviving cast members for one emotional night. Ray Romano hosted alongside series creator Phil Rosenthal, who managed the live taping on a recreated soundstage of the iconic Barone family living room.

The special featured appearances from Brad Garrett (Robert), Patricia Heaton (Debra), Monica Horan (Amy), and twins Madylin Sweeten and Sullivan Sweeten (Ally and Michael). It also paid tribute to the late Doris Roberts and Peter Boyle, who played Marie and Frank Barone for all nine seasons.
Romano said walking back into the recreated set was emotional. The moment got captured on film before the audience arrived, with both Romano and Rosenthal visibly moved by the experience.
The chemistry between Romano and Garrett remained undeniable. Just weeks before, the two had presented the Emmy Award for Outstanding Comedy Series together. That bit went viral when Garrett joked about ending up in the show’s In Memoriam segment. The comedy duo actually wrote that 90-second bit together.
Why It Took Three Decades for a Reunion
Rosenthal revealed he’d been pushing for a reunion special for 10 years. He wanted to celebrate the 20th anniversary in 2016, but CBS wasn’t interested at the time. Same story for the 25th anniversary in 2021.
Everything changed when a new regime arrived at CBS. President Amy Reisenbach was enthusiastic about bringing the show’s cast back. Rosenthal described her as “absolutely lovely and great,” and she championed the project internally.
The timing actually worked out. The Paley Center in New York had just finished a 30 Years of Everybody Loves Raymond exhibit that ran from June to September 2025. Romano and Rosenthal initially tried coordinating with that exhibit, but technical reasons prevented it. Then CBS offered a slot during Thanksgiving week in November, and they jumped at the opportunity.
Cast Memories & Surprising Discoveries
| Cast Member | Role | Notable Moment |
| Ray Romano | Ray Barone | Star of show and host |
| Brad Garrett | Robert Barone | Emmy presentation viral moment |
| Patricia Heaton | Debra Barone | Appeared at reunion special |
| Madylin Sweeten | Ally Barone | Shared how direction changed her |
Romano shared that someone from the Philippines learned to speak English by watching him on the show. That moment captured the global impact of a family sitcom that aired for nine seasons ending in 2005.
Actress Madylin Sweeten had a touching revelation. She remembered Rosenthal giving her a directorial note years ago. She said the note had a profound effect on her career. When Romano was shown a clip of that specific scene, he’d actually forgotten about it.
No Reboot Coming, But Plenty of Nostalgia
And here’s the big news everyone wants to know: there will be no reboot of Everybody Loves Raymond. Both Rosenthal and Romano are adamant about that.
Rosenthal explained it directly. The show is missing key people who made it special. Doris Roberts and Peter Boyle passed away since the series ended. Without them, it just wouldn’t be the same show. Plus, Rosenthal noted that reboots rarely work.
Romano agreed completely. A revival wouldn’t capture what made the original special. The chemistry, the family dynamic, the parents—it’s all irreplaceable.
Where Can Fans Watch the Special?
The Everybody Loves Raymond: 30th Anniversary Reunion aired live on CBS on Monday, Nov. 24. It also streams on Paramount+ for subscribers. The special came together through Fulwell Entertainment, the same production company behind the beloved “Friends: The Reunion.”
Fans who missed the broadcast can catch it through Paramount+ streaming. For those who want to relive the magic, all 210 episodes of the original series remain available on Peacock. Romano actually binged the entire series during the COVID pandemic and ranked each episode on a scale from 1 to 100—he never gave a perfect score but appreciated everyone’s work more after revisiting the show.
This special marks just how much this show meant to audiences. For 30 years, people have connected with the Barone family’s struggles, laughs, and love for each other. Tonight proved that connection never really goes away.
