Overwatch patch notes drop big hero balance changes, Stadium updates, and new events

Overwatch 2’s massive January 8 mid-season update just went live with sweeping hero balance changes that shake up the meta. Tank, Damage, and Support heroes face significant nerfs and buffs. Plus, Stadium mode gets powerful new spawn defense turrets, and chaotic Showdown Shuffle launches January 13-26.

Tank Heroes Face Major Adjustments

Doomfist, D.Va, and Roadhog received targeted updates. Doomfist’s Empowered Punch now decays after 20 seconds instead of lasting indefinitely, fixing exploit situations. D.Va’s Extended Boosters damage bonus dropped from 100% to 40%. Meanwhile, Roadhog’s Whole Hog got a slight damage increase per pellet, from 6 to 7.

The changes aim to balance lethality and counterplay. Doomfist players must now plan punches more carefully, while D.Va mains find booster gaps harder to exploit for guaranteed kills.

Damage Heroes Receives Mixed Changes

Ashe, Bastion, Genji, and Vendetta see adjustments to primary fire and abilities. Ashe’s falloff range reduced, asking long-range hitscan players to position closer. Bastion’s Configuration Recon damage drops from 25 to 23. Genji gains ammo from 24 to 30 for more consistent pressure.

Vendetta faces the harshest nerfs, with Projected Edge dropping from 80 to 70 damage and Whirlwind Dash following suit. These changes prevent overly dominant eliminations.

Stadium Gets Spawn Defense Turrets

Spawn camping has plagued Stadium since launch. The new Spawn Defense Turrets activate when enemies approach spawn rooms.
