Sure it's fun to make a list of the best players out there and imagining have them join the Rockets but I just don't see the draw for Davis. I believe he resigns with NOLA but after that there's his hometown of Chicago plus the big markets like NY and LA that would be ahead of Houston.

With Durant I see the bond him and Harden have and it really goes beyond that. They were in a situation in OKC where they had arrived and the run of Finals appearances was about to begin until the Thunder front office decided they could do it without Harden and they forced his hand. That was not only hard on Harden but Durant as well and he had lost Green a couple years before so this wasn't a new situation but it was his best friend leaving this time. So if I had to guess I'd say Durant's best post season results were with Harden and they might believe they have unfinished business. Also Durant supposedly really enjoyed his time at Texas so there's that plus his JayZ ties which include one of Houston's biggest celebrities for whatever that's worth. On the court he gets to join a high scoring free flowing offense, gets to play with an elite veteran center as well as join his best friend to pick up where they left off after they walked off the court in Miami.

I'll say this: if there is a player who can completely negate the impending dominance of Davis/Asik's defense in the coming years it is Durant.  The guy can shoot, shoot, shoot all day long and never have to get near those trees inside.

 

The more I think about it, the more I think our "window" in Houston has less to do with us and more to do with Davis maturing and becoming the most dominant force in the NBA.  Shaq/Kobe ruined the seasons of many, many "great" teams.  I foresee similar things for Davis and at the rate he is developing (with solid work from their GM to keep the rest of the roster good) he could leapfrog us (and everyone else) sooner than later.

 

As far as attracting him here, He and Harden have 2 international tours together and have worked on commercials together.  Davis may be enticed by the McHale/Olajuwon mentorship he can get here.  Who knows, it doesn't come up until 2017 and that is if NO doesn't extend him early.  It's a pipe dream.  The question is, would you rather play with him or against him.  Morey has to try and get that guy at all costs.

 

Either way, I'll be jumping with joy if either Durant or Davis winds up a Rocket.  That's a win-win.

Davis is just so far away since he'll get the big five year extension from the pells so many things could change by then. With Durant you can at least make semi logical guesses.

Will we have enough cap space to offer Kawhi the max? Imagine a team of

PG = Harden(guard SGs)
SG = Kawhi (guard PG or best player)
SF = Ariza
PF = Jones
C = Howard

That is the best defensive team in the NBA. I think SA might match but then again they might not. What kind of message does it send to the other guys that took paycuts if Kawhi gets the max? You never know with SA.
