I seriously doubt asik is only 256, maybe his rookie year, maybe.

i think your underestimating how big 255 is: http://mi.nba.com/playerindex/
have some fun look around, not many guys hit 270. And i get it might differ between listed versus actual, but that works both ways, say asik is 10 pounds heavier than listed so 260, most likely so is dorsey, thus 280.

Sorry, those records kept aren't always the most up to date and I just can't see asik at 256, my personal opinion.

Dorsey and Asik are probably heavier than their listed weight, but I think it is obvious that Dorsey is much heavier than the average NBA center. The problem will be he is significantly shorter. I do think his wing span and weight will bode well in limited minutes against back up centers. What I am more interesed in is his movement and his ability to effectively challenge shots on penetration in the paint. I've seen some video and he has great leaping ability, but it is also apparent that he fouls at an above average clip. If he can have a Patrick Beverly-type impact in the interior those fouls will be worth it and remember he will probably only play 10 - 15 minutes a game.

I don't think Dorsey's height disadvantage is particularly worrisome, especially against back-up centers. He can use his lower center of gravity and weight and strength advantages to force them off the block, paired with a decent leaping ability and he can bother shots. Look, I by no means think he is much of an answer, but we may get surprised. If he can punish a few folks physically for 10-15 minutes a night, then that's about all we can ask for. I think if it was a question between Greg Smith and Joey, I'd choose Joey.

I think there is a chance his strength will be in defending the pick n roll. His speed, length, and leaping ability are all going to be ample against a penetrating guard. He will also have the speed to get back to his man. I think he has an excellent understanding of team defense concepts which he picked up in Europe.
Most back up NBA centers have zero post game so that is not an issue I think we will run into often.
He's not perfect and isn't about to set the league on fire, but I think he may wind up being sneaky good in the same manner Omer was. It may not show up in the box scores, but the results will bear it out. Maybe we'll see him play tonight....

Speaking of media perception and how outsiders view us versus an internal view, here is a video of Daryl Morey fielding questions that all carry that general sentiment. I love how he laughs off the first question regarding our "terrible" off-season.
I like how he addressed the roster. Basically, he thinks we have one of the best starting 5 units in the league and that the bench, while young, is expected to yield a couple of guys who step up and contribute. He also alluded to a possible trade saying that we have the ability to make a significant move, but quickly followed that by saying he doesn't think that we will need to. He seemed to be of the opinion that any moves we make mid-season will be to shore up holes on the bench after seeing who steps up and who doesn't.
I expect we will see a lot of Canaan/Smith tonight, Daniels at SG, Papanikoloau....basically, everyone except Harden, Howard, Beverley, and Ariza.

Players have off games and Marc Stein had an off day. That first question was quite interesting. But Stein does live in Dallas so maybe it was not an off day.
