Everyone who is on the squad including those assigned to RGV (Capela and Johnson). The Rockets can have three people who are cut during camp play for RGV without having to go through the draft. Those three are not protected, and be signed by any team at any time.Oh ok sorry for the obvious questions! Working out who counts as the 15 spots is confusing me.

Houston Rockets General Manager Daryl Morey announced today that the team has waived Jeff Adrien, Earl Clark, Robert Covington, Akeem Richmond and guard Ish Smith. The roster is set!

So that means the final roster is:
PG: Beverley, Canaan
SG: Harden, Terry, Daniels, Johnson
SF: Ariza, Papanikalaou, Garcia
PF: Jones, Motiejunas, Capela
C: Howard, Dorsey, Black
Not too bad! We're a little thin at PG - just have to hope to avoid injuries there. It looked like McHale was experimenting with playing a dual-SG lineup of Harden and Terry in the last pre-season game, so maybe that's the backup plan. I'd be a little worried if we had to resort to that come playoff time though...

I'm glad Black made the cut. I like Adrien a lot, but his ceiling is more or less set and, apparently, it's around 6' 7"
--too bad for him.
So, the roster looks like this (Pre-D-League assignment)
Beverley, Canaan, Johnson
Harden, Terry, Daniels,
Ariza, Papanikolaou, Garcia
Jones, Donuts, Capela
Howard, Black, Dorsey
2 guys go to D-League: Capela and Johnson. I like it.
Black and Dorsey will make for a solid 12 hard fouls every game and, I think, will be serviceable back-ups for Howard. Throw Donuts in there and we've got 4 guys who can spend time at center.
PG seems to be the only position with questionable depth; however, Morey doesn't seem to believe in PG's unless they are truly elite--he'd rather have combo guards everywhere. Thus, our platoon of Harden, Bev, Canaan, and Terry will all spend time running the offense--even if it is just dumping the ball into Howard/D-Mo.

Ha, you beat me by 2 minutes ![]()
Glad to see we agree mostly--except on the depth chart in a couple of spots.

I still think Adrien would have been a better choice than Dorsey, personally. Our offensive system seems to require that the big nearest to the basket has a modicum of post-game. There have been stretches of the pre-season games where the offence has bogged down and the guards have looked to throw it into the post...and they find Dorsey. Asking him to score with his back to the basket late in the shot-clock is not going to end well very often.
I dunno, maybe they'll sort this out in the regular season. It just feels like without the potency from the outside that you get with Harden on the court you need a bit more reliability inside. But I guess McHale and Morey have decided between them who they prefer, and that's that. Maybe there was a difference in their defensive impact? (I didn't notice anything in particular but I might have missed something). It'd be a shame if it came down to the contract situation though.

That's fair. Adrien was certainly competent on offense versus Dorsey who was....not. I still think Dorsey will prove valuable--especially against teams that utilize the pick n roll a lot as his speed/athleticism should make him a solid defender against it. I have no doubt Adrien will find a home--he's too good to not be on a roster.
The offense will definitely bog down at times, but I think between Canaan, Papa, Donuts, and Terry we will be able to generate decent offense and Black/Dorsey have proven to be deft on the offensive glass--I imagine they will have ample opportunities.

i think it soley came down to adrien being more of a 4 than 5. He struggled rebounding as the 'biggest' rocket on the floor. So if we didn't have jones/dmo/capela at the 4 i think he would of made it. I think they might of been seeing if he could play the 5 cause then if we end up needing trade capela/dmo or whoever for a non-pf we would still have depth. Just a theory of mine, no facts to back it up.
