http://www.red94.net/video-hakeem-highlights-nba/9588/ Red94 | Houston Rockets news and musings Mon, 16 Mar 2015 00:55:40 +0000 hourly 1 http://wordpress.org/?v=4.0.8 http://www.red94.net/video-hakeem-highlights-nba/9588/comment-page-1/#comment-15649 Wed, 02 May 2012 00:51:45 +0000 http://www.red94.net/?p=9588#comment-15649 When you have one of those top five or top ten players, anything is possible.  You never know when they’ll take over and carry a bunch of roleplayers to contention.  We’ve seen Rose and Paul do it with good complementary pieces in recent years, following the same model as Houston’s first title.  I don’t think you need two guys of that level (though it wouldn’t hurt) but you do need one.  I think Houston has to pursue Dwight for that reason.  He’s got issues, sure, but I watch to be entertained.  The players are paid entertainers.  Sustained, dependable mediocrity is not very entertaining.

As evidenced by the oohs and ahhs generated by fellow Hall-of-Fame big men in the clip, there simply was no better. A perfect combo of size, wit and athleticism, with no pre-conceived notion of any physical limitations. He did it all. Like Jordan, Hakeem was a one time thing, I don’t sense any player out there, who already has contract in tow, putting in the hours of work Hakeem and Jordan did. Every offseason Hakeem added a new effective piece to his arsenal. Sadly, Yao had a similar work ethic but lacked the durability to ever get anywhere near the same level.
