In a close fought game the Rockets lost at the final buzzer. David Robinson's last second tip in sealed it for the Spurs. But in all the angst replays revealed that Robinson's hands were on the ball when the red light signaling end of game had flashed. Referees deliberated and in what I consider one of the greatest robberies ever the final decision was upheld.

The Sonics went on to beat the Rockets in a series where the home team won every game. I am convinced that had the referees ruled the correct call we might be celebrating 3 championships instead of 2.

The Suns had just acquired Barkley and though very good they were still relatively green in the team chemistry department and we all remember that the Hakeem gave the Bulls fits all throughout the early 90's

My dad worked at 104 KRBE back in the day, and he took my mom to Game 7 while I got stuck watching the game at home.

Growing up, I saw a handful of games at the Summit (then the Compaq Center), and it was always my luck that the Jazz would win when I attended a game.

I just read the Bill Simmons piece about the Team USA gold medal game. One particular paragraph caught my attention:

“One of the frustrating things about this tournament: (Andre) Iguodala has been a revelation as a fourth banana/swing defender/energy guy/uber-athlete, which really should have been his NBA destiny — mega-glue guy on a great team, like a much more devastating version of Trevor Ariza on the 2008-09 Lakers — only we don't have nearly enough quality players to fill 30 NBA teams, so instead he's forced to carry a lottery team, take terrible shots, play with inferior teammates and do everything that the Basketball Gods never meant for him to do. He's like Roger Sterling in “Mad Men” — you don't want him carrying the show, but in short doses, harnessed correctly, he can be a weapon. I had given up on Iguodala as a meaningful basketball player; now I think he'll be reincarnated on a contender within the next two seasons. He's one trade away.”

I'm thinking that Simmon's assessment is pretty spot on here. If Iguodala can do for the Rockets what he did for Team USA, would he be the “missing piece?” What does everyone think?

I started “following” the Rockets (as much as you could from Australia back in the day before the internet) in 93. I was 14 years old and basically got all my NBA info from a monthly TV highlights show and trading cards. I picked the Rockets as my team because I liked using Dream and Mad Max in the NBA Jam arcade game at the local amusement parlour.

Imagine my surpise the next year when we somehow won the championship! I didn't even realise we were that good!

Thankfully nowadays with the internet (and classy informative sites such as this) I can actually have a more meaningful connection to my team.
